Interesting Information and History of Tirupati

Tirupati is one of the famous Pilgrimage centers located in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. It lies in the foot of Seshachalam Hills of Lord Venkateshwara. Tirupati is also called as "Spiritual Capital of Andhra Pradesh". It has become most famous because of  Lord Venkateshwara Temple located in Tirumala. It is one of the Seven Swayam Vyaktha Kshetras of Lord Vishnu.

In the word Tirupati Tiru means sacred or Goddess Lakshmi and Pathi means adobe or husband. Tirupati is surrounded by Srikalahasti towards the east, Poothalapattu towards the west, Seshachalam Hills towards the north, and Puttur towards the south. Tirupati has All India Radio Station and it is served by various FM Stations like 93.5,92.7,93.5 Red FM and Big  FM.

Tirupati is a Municipal Corporation and it is also called the home of Educational Institutions and Universities. Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) was constituted in the year 1981. It is the Urban Development Planning authority comprises of  Tirupati Town and surrounding villages. Tirupati is also called as Best Heritage City. Tirupati is selected as one among hundred cities in India to be developed as Smart Cities Mission by the Government of India.

Lord Venkateshwara is also called as Lord Balaji in North India or Lord Govinda or Vishnu in South India. Tirumala Tirupati Temple was built by the Famous king and Tamil ruler Thondaiman in the 8th Century. One day Thondaiman had a dream of Lord Vishnu said to built the Gopuram and Prakara. Tirupati is also famous for Laddu Prasadam at Lord Venkateshwara Temple.

Tirupati Celebrates all major festivals along with the Special Brahmotsavam event for Lord Venkateshwara, a nine-day event. During this festival, the deity Malayappa along with consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi is taken in four Mada streets around the temple premises on different Vahanams. Tirupati celebrates Local festival named "Tirupati Ganga Jathara" on the second week of May every year. In this Local Festival Goddess Gangamma is worshipped.

Tirupati has a wonderful collection of Various Temple architectures, historical facts, Pooja items, and idols. Everyone can visit Sri Venkateswara Museum and find our treasures along with a unique photo gallery that gives complete insight about valuable Tirupati traditions and culture. Archaeological Survey of India has established an Archaeological Museum at Chandragiri in the year 1988-89. It consists of a rich collection of Hindu gods sculptures, Coins, Paper documents, and precious cultural vestiges retrieved from places like Gudimallam, Yaganti, and Gandikota.

Tirupati is a medical hub with all major hospitals located in the heart of the city. Many of these are under Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government Hospital is one of the Largest hospital located in the State of Andhra Pradesh. It is considered as the main hospital in the entire Rayalaseema region. It was started in the year 1962.

Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) is also another major medical institute found in 1986. Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research, and Rehabilitation (BIRRD) is also another famous hospital established in the year 1985 by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Government Maternity Hospital (GMH) in Tirupati is the largest maternity hospital in Andhra Pradesh. It was named as the best hospital from the Ministry of Health and Family welfare in the year 2013.

The entire economy in Tirupati depends on Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL ) is also head quartered at Tirupati. Besides Historic Places and famous temples, there are other best tourist destinations in Tirupati. Chandragiri Fort, Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, Sri Venkateswara Museum, Regional Space Center etc are some of the best historical land marks that are there in and around Tirupati.
