The Significance of Sri Veda Narayana Swamy Temple, Nagalapuram

Nagalapuram Sri Veda Narayana Swamy Temple is one of the most interesting and auspicious temples located near Tirupati.The speciality of this temple is that It is the only temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu's first avatar of Dashavatara Matsya (The great Fish) . This Temple is being maintained by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

The Main deity in Nagalapuram is Sri Veda Narayana Perumal, It is believed that it is rescued from the demon Somakudu. The deity is in standing posture with his fish like tail clearly visible with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. In one hand there is Sudarshana chakra. There are other sub shrines one dedicated to Godess Vedavalli and other shrines dedicated to Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman as well.

Surya Pooja Utsavam is celebrated  for three days in the mid-march to mid april month on the auspicious month of Phalguni  During this three days the Sun rays fall on the main deity between 18:00 hrs and 18:15 hrs. On the First day Sun rays fall on the feet. On the second day Sunrays fall on the chest and on the third day Sun rays fall on the fore head.

Nagalapuram is located at a distance of around 70 Kms from Tirupati and 90 Kms from Chennai. In order to reach this temple there are number of buses available from Tirupati Bus stand. Apart from APSRTC buses TTD also runs a special temple tour bus which includes Nagalapuram Sri Veda Narayana Swamy Temple. TTD Temple tour bus starts every morning from Srinivasam complex.
