The History of famous Tumburu Theertham in Tirumala

Tumburu Theertham is one of the important and famous theerthams in Tirumala. It is one among Top 108 Theerthas that exists in Tirumala Hills.It is situated at a distance of 12 kms from Tirumala and around 7 kms from Papavinasanam. People believe that the real "Bangaru Balli" is said to live here. Devotees can find the small idol of Lord Tumbura.

Tumburu Theertham

Tumburu Theertham has the history of a Gandharva who cursed his wife for her laziness. According to legend, the lady became a toad who had to survive in the pond until Agasthya came there with his disciples. Agasthya describes the divinity and importance of this location to all his disciples. The toad regained her Gandharva form and then this place is famously called Thumburu Theertham.

Tumburu Theertham is opened only one day in the year. It resembles the beauty, wonder, and highness of nature. On the auspicious Chaitra Poornima day, this theertham is opened. Remaining part of the year Devotees are not allowed to visit this place. Devotees will get good fortunes when they dip in this theertham on an auspicious day.

Devotees can reach this place only by trekking. there is no transport facility available. Devotees need to trek in dense forest and has to climb stones involved in this journey path. Devotees will enjoy the natural beauty by viewing greenery, small waterfalls and lakes during their trekking. TTD has made all facilities like water, ropes etc to assist Devotees during their trekking. Devotees need to travel in between two valleys through which water has flowed for millions of years
